Suwon city advertised Independence Day’s history and meaning to foreign residents via the history golden bell, which was the 3rdprogram of the local community activity with foreign residents: “SuOne Day”.

Suwon city international exchange center ran the program ‘History Golden Bell: the First Step to Know Korean History’ from 2 pm to 4:30 pm on 14th. 30 foreign residents and public diplomats that consist of Suwon city university students participated in this program.

The program was run via the online platform Zoom. It showed videos related to Independence Day and told Korea and Suwon’s history to the foreign residents.

Then the participants had time to share their home country’s history. They learned Korean history by solving Suwon City Public Diplomat’s questions in the golden bell method.

Suwon city international exchange center provided a small handbook introducing Korea’s significant history in English before the program. The center also sent handouts that introduce representative independence activists such as Gwan-Soon Yu and Jung-Geun Ahn to advertise the Korean independence movement.

The official from Suwon city international exchange center said: “We prepared untact program that foreign residents can safely enjoy the independence day holiday” and “it was a great opportunity for foreign residents to understand the history of Korean independency’s history and be more interested in Korea.

SuOne Day, which supports the local community activity of foreign residents, will be held 8 times this year.

한국다문화뉴스=강성혁 기자ㅣ수원시가 외국인 주민과 함께하는 지역사회 활동 ‘수원(One)데이’ 세 번째 시간으로 역사골든벨을 열어 외국인 주민들에게 광복절의 역사와 의미를 알렸다.

수원시 국제교류센터는 14일 오후 2시부터 오후 4시30분까지 외국인 주민 30명과 수원시 대학생으로 구성된 공공외교단이 참여하는 ‘역사 골든벨: 한국 역사를 알아가는 첫걸음’ 프로그램을 진행했다.

온라인 플랫폼 줌(ZOOM)을 활용해 비대면으로 진행된 이날 프로그램은 외국인 주민들에게 광복절 관련 영상을 보여주고, 우리나라와 수원의 역사를 알려주는 방식으로 진행됐다

이어 참가자들이 각자 모국의 역사를 소개하며 공유하는 시간을 갖고, 역사에 대해 이야기를 나눈 뒤 수원시 공공외교단이 내는 문제를 골든벨 형식으로 풀어가며 역사를 알아갈 수 있도록 했다.

수원시 국제교류센터는 이날 프로그램에 앞서 우리나라의 중요한 역사적 사실을 영어로 소개하는 소책자를 제공했다. 특히 유관순, 안중근 등 대표적인 독립운동가에 대해 알아보는 자료도 함께 보내 우리나라 독립운동에 대해 알리는 계기로 삼았다.

수원시 국제교류센터 관계자는 “광복절 연휴를 맞아 외국인 주민들이 집에서도 안전하게 즐길 수 있는 비대면 프로그램을 기획했다”면서 “외국인 주민들이 한국 광복의 역사를 이해하고, 한국에 대한 관심을 높일 수 있는 좋은 기회가 됐다”고 말했다.

한편 외국인 주민들의 지역사회 활동을 지원하는 수원데이는 올해 총 8회 진행된다.
