The 2026 Free Newspaper Subscription Program will be open from October 13 to 27.
This initiative, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Press Foundation, aims to promote reading culture across the nation by providing free newspaper or magazine subscriptions for one year to citizens who face financial challenges in subscribing to print media.
The program targets recipients of basic living subsidies, low-income households, and persons with disabilities. Each household can receive one newspaper or magazine for a year, with the full subscription fee covered by the government.
Applications can be submitted online through the Government24 website by searching for “Free Newspaper Subscription.” If applications exceed the quota, selections will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications are accepted from October 13 to 27, 2025, and results will be announced on December 22, 2025, through Government24. Selected applicants will receive a one-year subscription benefit from January 2 to December 31, 2026.
A total of 55 publications—including comprehensive dailies, economic newspapers, weekly papers, and children’s or foreign-language newspapers—are eligible for selection.
Among the weekly publications is Korea Multicultural News, which delivers insightful coverage on multicultural and immigrant issues, family policies, education, and labor affairs.
The Government24 application process is simple:
1. Visit the Government24 website.
2. Search for “Free Newspaper Subscription.”
3. Click “Apply.”
4. Complete identity verification.
5. Under “Preferred Newspaper (1st Choice),” select Korea Multicultural News from the weekly newspaper category.
Applicants who choose Korea Multicultural News can receive the publication free of charge throughout 2026.
A representative from Korea Multicultural News stated,
